Overview
The Internet provides many possibilities for
corporations as a business and communication tool, but
at the same time it brings with it many security threats
and challenges, which need to be addressed. In effect,
increased Internet connectivity has enabled viruses and
other malicious code to spread faster than ever before
causing large amounts of damages and costs. F-Secure
Anti-Virus for CyberGuard Firewalls is designed to
protect enterprise networks from these kind of threats
by scanning viruses and other malicious code hidden in
FTP, HTTP and SMTP traffic entering or leaving the
company.
In order to avoid the entry of viruses and other
malicious code into the corporate network and minimize
the damages and costs caused by them, scanning of
viruses and other malicious code should be performed at
the perimeter of the company in real-time. F-Secure
Anti-Virus for CyberGuard Firewalls is a centrally
managed and policy-based gateway anti-virus solution for
CyberGuard Firewalls designed to protect the corporate
network against the invasion of viruses and other
malicious code hidden in email attachments and web and
file transfers.
F-Secure Anti-Virus for CyberGuard Firewalls is the only
integrated firewall/anti-virus solution sold and
supported by one company, providing the best
performance, security and reliability.
What is the
Product?
F-Secure Anti-Virus for CyberGuard Firewalls is a
Windows-based gateway anti-virus product which works in
conjunction with CyberGuard Firewalls to provide
unsurpassed detection and disinfection for
Internet-borne viruses and malicious code passing
through CyberGuard Firewalls. By automatically scanning
HTTP, FTP and SMTP for malicious code as the data passes
through the CyberGuard Firewall, F-Secure Anti-Virus for
CyberGuard Firewalls stops viruses before they can
compromise corporate security.
What Does the
Product Do?
F-Secure Anti-Virus for CyberGuard Firewalls ensures
that viruses and other kind of malicious code cannot
enter the company network through FTP, HTTP and SMTP
traffic. Likewise, it blocks malicious code leaving the
company and propagating to other companies.
How Does the
Product Work?
F-Secure Anti-Virus for CyberGuard Firewalls is designed
to detect and disinfect viruses and other malicious code
from data transmissions through CyberGuard Firewalls.
The scanning is done in real time as the data is
transmitted through the CyberGuard Firewall.
The product uses Agent and Server technology. The
CyberGuard Firewall acts as the agent, sending data
traffic directly to the F-Secure Anti-Virus for
CyberGuard Firewalls Server. If the data transmitted
contains malicious code, FSecure Anti-Virus for
CyberGuard Firewalls will either disinfect or drop the
content. After disinfection, the data is sent back to
the CyberGuard Firewall, which in turn sends it on to
the intended recipient. Any malicious code found during
the scan process can be placed in quarantine, where it
can be further examined.
For example, an infected attachment in an email message
can be removed and replaced with a disinfected
attachment. Optionally, the recipient inside the company
network can be notified about the discovered infection.
The network administrator can also be notified about the
infection.
F-Secure Anti-Virus for CyberGuard Firewalls is
installed on a dedicated Microsoft Windows NT or Windows
2000 Server. There is no additional software installed
on the CyberGuard Firewall itself. The data traffic that
needs to be scanned is redirected to the product from
the rule base of the CyberGuard Firewall itself.
In the figure below, you can see how F-Secure Anti-Virus
for CyberGuard Firewalls works. The CyberGuard Firewall
acts as a CVP agent, which is configured to send
transactions directly to F-Secure Anti-Virus for
CyberGuard Firewalls.
